Firstly, I would like to thank all Residents of Hall 3 for their support in voting me in as the Publications Secretary of the 29th JCRC. It is indeed a great honour to be serving the community of Hall 3, with its rich tradition and heritage. I give my word that I will accept this position of responsibility by continuing to uphold the good name and integrity of the Hall, and perform my duties with pride, passion and professionalism.
As many of you might remember, I made a number of statements during the rally with regard to what I intend to do as a Publications Secretary. As a means of accountability, I will be listing down these statements below
1. I will transform how publications is done – to be more relevant to the new generation of new media – by integrating social networking and interactive multimedia into both the Aurora and FH3 publications – similar to how commercial publications work.
2. FH3 will not merely be a bi-annual publication printed before the exam break. Rather, I will work closely with the elected Assistant Honorary General Secretary to implement an online edition of FH3, which will publish write ups, photos, videos and related multimedia to cover Hall 3s events as a comprehensive diary. The Print edition of FH3 shall be a collective collection of all articles published online , as well as any elements that would constitute a print magazine related to Hall 3.
3. I will implement a more concrete archiving system for all publications matters. Photos and videos will not only be uploaded onto facebook, but they will also be syndicated to flickr, and full resolution photos will be made available for download by hall residents easily. Past editions of FH3 will be made available online if possible.
4. Major hall events will have their photos, media and write ups published online within 3 working days. IHG reports will be published within 24hrs, as with the expectations of Hall 3
5. I will consider the feasibility of implementing a digital DVD yearbook in addition to the print media of Aurora.
6. I will work closely with the other elected members of JCRC and offer my assistance in whatever way I am able to. Examples would be using advertisements(print and online) to help the Business manager raise funds, assisting the A. Hon. Gen. with the Hall website etc.
I will be using this blog as a mode of communication and transparency with the residents of Hall 3. I will be posting regular updates on this blog with regard to my progress in implementing changes and challenges faced. Residents are also encouraged to comment here to post your feedback and suggestions on how you feel publications in Hall 3 can be improved.
